Sutton Music Trust Exam Remissions
Sutton Music Trust (SMT) aims to help every young person in the London Borough of Sutton to make, be inspired by and celebrate the music they love.
We are offering a remission of a 20% on exam fees to ease the financial burden of these exams and ensure that it is within the means of all students who wish to take them.
This policy applies to all students seeking to take ABRSM exams through SMT who do not qualify for other discounts offered by the exam boards and can demonstrate financial need.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the exam bursary, applicants must:
- Be an active and commited member of SMT on the instrument on which they are taking the exam. This includes Music Academy lessons; band, orchestra, or choir membership; or in-school music lessons for a minimum of two terms.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Demonstrate they are ineligible to apply for remissions already offered by ABRSM.
- Not have already received a discount on the exam in question.
Application Process
A parent or carer must email the Head of Sutton Music Trust via hello@suttonmusictrust.org.uk and include the following information:
Child’s name.
Exam details (type, grade, instrument).
A brief statement explaining their financial situation and need for assistance.
Applications must be submitted at the same time as the parent/carer registers for the exam.
Applications received after the exam registration deadline will not be considered.
If the minimum exam time as specified by the board is not met, it will not be possible to run exams that term and applications cannot be considered. Students will, however, be invited to reapply for the following term.
We will respond to all bursary applicants after 17th February 2025 (for the Spring Term 2025 exam series), to let them know the outcome of their application and then if successful, we will amend their invoice accordingly.
