Sutton Youth Choir

Sutton Youth Choir (SYC) is an auditioned choir for advanced and skilled singers aged 13-18, aimed at changed and unchanged SATB voices. We are a friendly, inclusive choir that likes to sing lots of different styles of music from folk to pop, musicals to classical. Many of the songs we sing are chosen by our choir members! Sutton Youth Choir rehearse weekly (term-time only) and enjoy performing at end of term concerts and special events. Although you don’t need to be able to read music to join our choir, it is helpful if you have some sight-reading experience.  

What happens in an audition? 

Our informal auditions are an opportunity for us to learn more about you and your voice and see where you might fit in our choir. During the 10-minute audition, you will be asked to sing one of your favourite songs. You can sing it a cappella (unaccompanied) or with a backing track, if you have one. After you have sung your song, we will ask you to sing a few vocal warm-ups to check your range and ask you about your previous singing experiences. We may also ask you to do some short sight-reading, depending on experience.
