In memory of our beloved tutor and conductor, Roger Willey, who dedicated over 30 years of his career to Sutton Music Trust, we are proud to launch the Roger Willey Brass Award. This award will honour his memory and ensure young brass players from the London Borough of Sutton can continue to flourish and make music.
As part of the award, a promising brass player in Year 7 or above, who attends one of the Sutton Music Trust wind bands, will receive £500 in funding to support their musical development over a year.
The funding can be used for:
- Ensemble membership,
- Instrumental tuition with an SMT tutor,
- Exam fees,
- Books for lessons and exams,
- Payment towards residential trips,
- Instrument hire,
- Opportunities to experience live performance.
This is not an exhaustive list, and the winner and family can consult with SMT at any point through the year.
The first award will be presented at the wind bands concert on Tuesday 3rd December 2024!
