Summer Term Events 2026

Summer Term Events 2026

Sutton Music Trust held a huge number of events over the summer term, all centred around giving students opportunities to make music and gain confidence, independence, and other important life skills.

It has been an incredibly busy and rewarding Summer Term at Sutton Music Trust, with young musicians taking part in a wide range of performances, workshops, competitions and new initiatives. Throughout the term, students had opportunities to develop their musical skills, build confidence, make new friends and create lasting memories through music. From our first Post 16 Careers in Music Fair and Battle of the Bands to the Sutton Sings Festival, Young Musician of the Year competition and our Summer Concerts, there was something for everyone to get involved in.

Alongside our regular rehearsals, Music Academy sessions, and school partnerships, we delivered some major events across the term, giving hundreds of young people the chance to perform, collaborate, and grow as musicians. Here are some of them:

  • Ensembles Social
  • Post 16 Opportunities in Music Fair
  • Music Academy Recital
  • Battle of the Bands
  • Carshalton Jazz workshops
  • Sutton Sings Festival over four days
  • Key Stage 2 #MakeMusicWithUs Festival
  • Youth Forum Social
  • Young Musician of the Year competition
  • Sponsored Walk
  • Summer Concert at St Andrews
  • Summer Concert at the Epsom Playhouse

I just wanted to give a massive thanks to you and all of the team for hosting such an amazing concert yesterday in such a great venue! I can't imagine how busy concert weeks must be for everyone, but I can say that it definitely pays off!

Summer Term Award Winners

We have had an incredibly successful year of running the Jack Petchey Achievement Award, and this term was no exception! The Youth Forum worked hard to gather nominations and anonymously select a winner.

The Jack Petchey Summer term winners were Caitlin and Avery! You can read all about their success stories here.

In the summer term, conductors choose who they would like to present awards to, and this term we had a wide variety of award winners! Congratulations to Shania, Jude, Theo, Rohit, Elena, Annabelle, Sienna, Yoyo, Trina, Imogen and Kylie. You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves and your hard work.

A special congratulations goes to Elinor Thomas, this year’s recipient of the SYMSA Award. As a long-standing member of Sutton Music Trust, Chair of the Youth Forum and SMT Trustee, Elinor has made an extraordinary contribution to the organisation and has inspired many younger musicians through her leadership, dedication and enthusiasm.

As another successful year draws to a close, we would like to thank every student, parent, volunteer, conductor, tutor, and supporter who has helped make these opportunities possible.

We’re already looking forward to an exciting year ahead as we celebrate Sutton Music Trust’s 55th Anniversary and continue to help young people across Sutton discover the joy of making music together.
