We are delighted to announce that from 1st April 2023, Sutton Music Service will become a charity subsidiary of Cognus and be known as Sutton Music Trust. By becoming a charity, Sutton Music Trust will be able to build upon the history of Sutton Music Service and be better placed to ensure that we continue to help children and young people to make music with us, as we have done for over 50 years.
As Sutton Music Trust, we are entering an exciting new phase to create better sustainability for music education in the borough. It will open up different funding streams, enable access to charitable reliefs, improve our ability to reinvest in the service, and better respond to the ambitions of The power of music to change lives: a national plan for music education (2022). The Trust will be more responsive and flexible while continuing to benefit from the connections that Cognus brings.
“This is such a great news story for the Music Service. I am really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve as Sutton Music Trust. Huge thanks to all of my fabulous colleagues in the Music Service, from across Cognus, and our Music Hub Committee for their talents, experience and support with this project.”
Gareth Gay – Head of Music Service, Cognus Limited
“Following consultation with Cognus’ Board and local stakeholders, we’re excited for the next phase of the music service’s development as a charity, enabling us to leverage the amazing work that the service undertakes in the local area and reach more young people to make music. I’m grateful to the staff, including our fantastic team of music tutors, for their ongoing excellent work in providing high quality music education.”
Jo Cassey – Managing Director, Cognus Limited
