ArtsOne Rocks! – ‘Play with Sky’ – Ziggy Marley ft. Ben Harper

The Sutton Music Education hub is continuously on the lookout for high-quality opportunities that will inspire and engage the children and young people across the borough. Recently, we have been delighted to involve our Hub Partner, ArtsOne Rocks!, in a project with Gibson Guitars and V2 Records to celebrate the release of the new single by Grammy Award-winning Reggae artist, Ziggy Marley:

The seven ArtsOne Rocks! musicians chosen to represent London, have learnt ‘Play with Sky’ following an instructional video produced by Marley himself. The aim is for them to film their live version of the song, which will be edited together with the performances of students at music schools in Paris and Amsterdam. Because Ziggy Marley plays an Epiphone acoustic guitar, a Gibson Brand, the students have been able to choose which guitars they would like to play in the video. The selected guitars were couriered down to Sutton directly from Gibson’s central London showroom.

On Thursday 29 October, the students in Sutton will join a live stream with the young musicians in Paris and Amsterdam along with Marley in Los Angeles where he will be shown their work for the first time. Marley will give his reaction to the performances and answer their questions. To say thank you for their work and dedication on this project, Gibson has invited the students to visit their London showroom when the COVID restrictions allow.

The students involved have been very excited to work on this project, and they are relishing the prospect of talking to Marley about his career and getting to know him. While working on the project, the students have been struck by Marley’s positivity and energy, which they have cited as being inspirational, especially considering the current climate.

Music Education Hubs are groups of organisations that work together to create a joined-up music education. Based at Glenthorne High School, ArtsOne Rocks is a Saturday music school that has been providing young people across the borough with high-quality, contemporary music performance opportunities for the past ten years. ArtsOne Rocks! is available to all young people to join and more details can be found here.
