As part of Sutton Music Trust’s (SMT) mission to inspire all children to make music, we have launched a “Note Home” reward scheme celebrating the efforts and achievements of our students. The “Note Home” takes the form of a postcard, and we called out for our students to submit their designs.
We received 17 entries for our “Note Home” competition, which was shortlisted to 3. The winner was chosen by a group of SMT students at our recent High Ashurst Weekend.
It was an incredibly tough decision, but the winner was chosen as… Rachel!

The “Note Home” celebrates 7 areas of effort and achievement a student could show in a lesson or rehearsal, following the musical alphabet. These are:
- Ambition: Tackling difficult tasks with a positive attitude.
- Behaviour: Demonstrating excellent conduct in lessons or rehearsals.
- Collaboration: Working well with others in lessons or rehearsals.
- Development: Showing improvement or evidence of practice.
- Enthusiasm: Being engaged and positive about their work.
- Feedback: Accepting or providing constructive feedback to peers.
- Goals: Reflecting on learning and setting practice goals.
The postcards will be trialled in some lessons at Music Academy, and at the Young Musicians String Group, Young Musicians Training Orchestra, and Sutton Youth Training Band over the Summer Term.
Thank you to everyone who submitted a design for the competition.
