Register for Young Musician of the Year 2024!

Apply now for the Sutton Young Musician of the Year Masterclass and Competition - both held at All Saints Church, Carshalton, on Saturday 4th May 2024.

We are delighted to open applications for the Young Musician of the Year Masterclass and Competition for students in the Sutton Youth Symphonic Band (SYSB), Young Musicians Orchestra (YMO), Sutton Youth Wind Orchestra (SYWO), and Sutton Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO).

This will be an excellent opportunity for our students to practice performance skills and gain valuable feedback from our adjudicator, Robin Page, conductor and musical director.

The competition has two categories:

The Junior Young Musician of the Year Masterclass 2024 (12.30pm-2.30pm)

This is for students who are at least Grade 4 standard and in Years 4-8. They will perform a piece or pieces for up to 5 minutes in total. Students will receive verbal feedback and advice as well as a certificate. The adjudicator will decide upon a winner for each section.

Please note there are a maximum of 20 spaces available for this masterclass.

The Sutton Young Musician of the Year Competition 2024 (3.00pm-5.30pm)

This is for students who are at least Grade 6 standard and in Year 9 and above. They will perform two contrasting pieces totalling between 12-15 minutes. The students will receive verbal guidance, advice, and a certificate. The adjudicator will select the winner who will become Sutton Young Musician of the Year 2024. The winner will get an opportunity to perform a solo with SYWO or SYSO over the forthcoming year!
