Singing Success in Sutton with Sutton Music Service and Friday Afternoons

This term, we were thrilled to work with one of our National Singing Partners, Friday Afternoons, to offer a brand new collaborative singing and signing project based around Russell Hepplewhite’s new compositions, with lyrics by Michael Rosen, ‘Earth’ and ‘Language’. The weekly virtual workshops were delivered by Friday Afternoons Ambassador Charlotte Brosnan and experienced practitioner Dr. Paul Whittaker and accessed by approximately 630 Year 5 & 6 pupils from the LEO Academy Trust.

"The project has been a huge success and it has been enormously rewarding watching the children grow in confidence with their singing and signing over the past few weeks. Technology has enabled a large number of children to participate in this amazing opportunity in a Covid-secure environment and I hope that the children enjoyed exploring their voices, learning how to sing and sign new songs, and that they feel inspired to keep singing!"

As a result of the project, some of the classes have recorded a mini-performance, which we are delighted to share here.

The project has proved to be an inspiring and engaging way to revive singing in Sutton schools and we hope that by sharing these videos and links to Friday Afternoons resources, we will encourage all of our schools to keep singing!
