Sutton Music Trust are proud to work closely with the London Borough of Sutton to provide special performance opportunities for students, and to support the local community.
On Thursday 8th May, as part of the London Borough of Sutton’s commemorations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Max (Sutton Youth Wind and Symphony Orchestras) performed “The Last Post” and “Reveille”.
“The Last Post”, originating from the 18th Century, was used to signal the end of the day’s activities and the final inspections of guard posts. “The Last Post” is now used as a tribute to the fallen, and is played at remembrance services across the world.
“Reveille” also originates to the 18th Century, and marked the start of the military day, calling troops to rise and prepare for duty. It is often played after “The Last Post” at ceremonies to symbolise renewal.
The event was attended by members of the public, cadets from each of the armed forces, and councillors and local MPs. The event was presided over by The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton Councillor Colin Stears.
I am incredibly proud of Max for performing at such an important event – it was a vital chance to pause, reflect, and remember.
