Young Musician of the Year 2023!

Young Musician of the Year 2023!

One of our aims is to help young people be inspired by the music they love. One of the ways we meet this aim is by holding our Young Musician of the Year Masterclass and Competition.

This year’s Young Musician of the Year Masterclass and Competition is open for students in the Sutton Youth Symphonic Band (SYSB), Young Musicians Orchestra (YMO), the Sutton Youth Wind Orchestra (SYWO), and the Sutton Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO). This will be an excellent opportunity for students to practice performance skills and gain valuable feedback from our adjudicator, Tim Lissimore, Deputy Headteacher at Wilson’s School.

The event will be held on Saturday, 29th April, at All Saints Church, High Street, Carshalton, SM5 3AG.

Young Musician of the Year 2022 winner, Liam Roberts, will perform with the Sutton Youth Symphony Orchestra on Friday 24th March 2023

The Junior Young Musician of the Year Masterclass 2023 (2 pm-3.30 pm)

This is for students who are at least Grade 4 standard and in Years 4-8. They will perform a piece or pieces for up to 5 minutes in total. Students will receive verbal feedback and advice as well as a certificate. The adjudicator will decide upon a winner for each section.

The Sutton Young Musician of the Year Competition 2023 (4 pm-5.30 pm)

This is for students who are at least Grade 6 standard and in Year 9 and above. They will perform a piece or pieces to a length of up to 10 minutes. The students will receive verbal guidance, advice, and a certificate. The adjudicator will select the winner who will become Sutton Young Musician of the Year 2023. The winner will perform a solo with SYWO or SYSO over the forthcoming year!
