Privacy Notice - Music Tutors
Sutton Music Trust (“the Trust”) is the data controller for the personal data you provide during the recruitment process. We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about how we use it.
As part of recruiting self‑employed music tutors, we may collect and process the following information:
- name, address, email address and telephone number
- qualifications, skills, experience and employment history
- details provided in application forms, CVs and during interviews
- references and safeguarding information
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) information, where required
- right‑to‑work and identity documentation
- equality and diversity information (where provided voluntarily)
We process personal data for the purposes of:
- assessing suitability for engagement as a self‑employed tutor
- carrying out safeguarding and safer‑recruitment checks
- meeting legal and regulatory obligations
- communicating with applicants during the recruitment process
- entering into a contract for services where an application is successful
We do not use personal data for purposes unrelated to recruitment or engagement.
Under UK GDPR, the Trust processes personal data on the following lawful bases:
- legitimate interests, for recruiting and managing self‑employed tutors
- legal obligations, including safeguarding and right‑to‑work checks
- contract, where processing is necessary to enter into a contract for services
- consent, where you choose to provide optional information (such as equality monitoring data)
Where necessary, we may process special category data (for example, health or equality information):
- to comply with safeguarding or legal requirements
- to make reasonable adjustments during recruitment
- for equality monitoring purposes
Such data is handled with additional care and access restrictions.
Your personal data may be shared with:
- staff involved in recruitment and safeguarding
- referees
- Disclosure and Barring Service and other relevant regulatory bodies
- external professionals or agencies where legally required
We do not sell personal data.
- Successful applicants: data is retained for the duration of engagement and in line with our retention policy
- Unsuccessful applicants: data is normally retained for up to six months after the recruitment process, then securely deleted.
Under data‑protection law, you have the right to:
- access your personal data
- request correction of inaccurate information
- request erasure of data (where applicable)
- object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances
- lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
