There may be times when a school chooses not to continue with Sutton Music Trust (SMT)’s WCET scheme for the following term or academic year, or wishes to return their class set of instruments. In this case, the instruments will need to be returned to SMT following the process below.
- The Senior Instrumental Curriculum Leader (SICL) checks during the School Ordering process whether a school does not want to continue with provision or wishes to return their class set of instruments.
- If a school does not want to continue with the provision or wishes to return its class set of instruments, the instruments must be returned to SMT.
- The Music Lead will be responsible for ensuring all instruments are put back into the right cases and that serial numbers and/or tags match. See below how to identify your instruments.
- The Music Lead must make note of any instruments which are damaged beyond the usual wear and tear and inform the SICL straight away.
- The SICL and SMT Business Support Officer (BSO) ensures there is enough space in the SMT store for the instruments.
If there is enough space in the store, the BSO arranges a time and date for collection with the school.
If there is not enough space in the store, the instruments will either be delivered directly to another school, or if this is not possible, the original school keeps hold of the instruments on the understanding that they remain liable for their condition. In this case, there will be no hire fees incurred.

Use the drop down menu below to learn how to identify instruments, which allocates them to the correct cases where approrpriate.
You will find a tag on the side of the case of the instrument.
