Meet the Summer 2026 winners of the Jack Petchey Award at Sutton Music Trust!

Meet the Summer 2026 winners of the Jack Petchey Award at Sutton Music Trust!

As part of our efforts to recognise and celebrate the hard work, commitment, and dedication of our students, Sutton Music Trust (SMT) became a Jack Petchey Achievement Award Centre in June 2025. After an exciting nomination process, we are delighted to confirm our next winners!

Throughout the Summer term, students, parents, tutors, and staff submitted nominations for the Jack Petchey Achievement Award, which recognises outstanding commitment, dedication, and contributions to the SMT ensembles. Winners of the award are allocated a £300 grant to invest back into the ensembles in an area of their choice.

Nominations were collected online and on paper at ensemble rehearsals, thanks to the help of the Sutton Music Trust Youth Forum (SMTYF). We collected 13 nominations, and the winners were chosen at a special meeting of SMTYF. To ensure fairness and transparency, nominations were anonymised.

Read below why these students were nominated!

“Caitlin is enthusiastic, cheerful and dedicated to music and she brings this energy to the ensembles she takes part in. A warm-hearted character, Caitlin has encouraged her friend to join the training orchestra having met in the training band. She works on the pieces during her practice time to ensure she can provide a strong sound to the brass section during rehearsals. Certainly one to watch for the future, Caitlin would be a worthy recipient of this award. No doubt this would further encourage her and help her unlock her full musical potential.”

Nominated by Billy Fisher (Conductor, SYTB)

“Avery leads the cellos for YMO and takes her role very seriously. She bowed and fingered some of the music with her teacher at the beginning of term, which none of the cellists had done previously. She attends every week and is always ready to play at 4.45 when the rehearsal starts. She is kind, thoughtful and smiley, always welcoming advice and suggestions, and being a great leader for team cello. In short, she is a great asset to YMO! Thank you Avery.”

Nominated by Liz Andrews (Cello tutor, YMO)

These awards will be presented at our upcoming Summer Concert Week. Congratulations to all students!

Keep an eye on our website, our social media, and email notifications when the next round of nominations opens for the Autumn Term 2026. Congratulations to all our winners in the 2025-26 academic year!
