Sutton singers to join forces with The Royal Opera House for our KS2 Big Sing ‘Magical Music’ this June!
At Sutton Music Service, we are passionate about singing and providing young singers with the opportunity to access high-quality vocal provision. Through our new Music Hub partnership with The Royal Opera House, we aim to engage and inspire the next generation of singers to explore various genres and sing at the highest levels possible.
On Tuesday, 13th June, KS2 choirs from 13 Sutton primary schools will be taking to the stage at St. Andrew’s United Reformed Church to perform a selection of specially arranged arias from Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’. The choirs will come together to form a massed choir, joined by guest artists and some members of the Orchestra from the Royal Opera House. In addition, each school choir will perform a solo slot of songs based on our theme, ‘Magical Music’.
To prepare for such a momentous performance, Sutton Music Service is pleased to facilitate a whole day free CPD training event delivered by Royal Opera House specialist drama and music practitioners on Tuesday 14th March at All Saints Church, Carshalton. During this practical session, teachers will engage with the building blocks of singing and learn creative techniques which can be applied across the curriculum to support the National Curriculum for Music. Following this session, we hope to coordinate satellite rehearsals for the school choirs to rehearse the massed choir songs and receive feedback on their solo performances from Royal Opera House practitioners. Needless to say, the young singers will be very busy learning lots of challenging and exciting songs over the coming weeks!
"This project is valuable as it will provide young singers with the opportunity to gain basic knowledge of opera, develop their singing, drama, and storytelling skills, and share the stage with internationally renowned singers and orchestral players. We are proud to be able to provide Sutton schools with this unique opportunity to develop singing in their school, and we can’t wait to hear the performances in June!"
