SMT Choirs perform at the Music For Youth Proms!

Sutton Music Trust is proud to provide students with opportunities to visit new, exciting professional venues. We were delighted to join the Massed Choir at this year’s Music for Youth Proms.

On Monday 10th November 2025, Sutton Music Trust took students from Sutton Young Singers (SYS) and Sutton Youth Choir (SYC) to the Royal Albert Hall for the Music for Youth National Proms. This extraordinary event showcased the brilliance of young musicians from across the UK, featuring a wide array of orchestras, bands, and choirs in a breathtaking display of music.

Opening the show was No Place Like, a commission written specially for BBC Ten Pieces by Kerry Andrew about home and place. The song takes inspiration from words submitted by children, giving young people the opportunity to contribute to one of the Ten Pieces for the first time.

Closing the show was Causeway. This brand-new piece by composer Aileen Sweeney, with text by poet Iona Lee, is inspired by the legendary tale of the Giant’s Causeway. With a 450-strong children’s choir, full orchestra, and a troop of Irish dancers, this epic retelling brings myth to music in spectacular style.

This year’s Creative Project featured the world premiere of the piece, which is a collaboration between Music for Youth, BBC Ten Pieces, ABRSM, and the Royal Albert Hall. Students even got to listen to the composer and poet talk about their experiences writing the piece live in person!

Just wanted to say thank you to the team for an excellent opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall. My son had a fantastic time and so did I enjoying the show

SMT Choir students had the opportunity to listen to a wide range of pieces from other students, including a harp ensemble, traditional Indian ensemble & strings, and a funk brass band playing music from The Blues Brothers! Well done to our young musicians who rose to the challenge at this event.
