At Sutton Music Trust (SMT) we encourage music making in all its forms, including by using technology. Thank you to Crown Lane Studio for hosting some of our students in an inspiring workshop.
On Wednesday 25th February 2026, 8 students who study Music Production and DJ Skills at SMT were invited to a workshop hosted by Crown Lane Studio and their lead engineer, Chris Cruz. Students learnt a variety of skills including:
- Setting up microphones
- Setting up instruments ready to record
- Multi-track recording techniques
- Adding and manipulating effects
[My son] absolutely loved the session and is now inspired to take Music GCSE and Music Tech. He was buzzing and happy, which made me very happy!

Students were able to utilise their own musical skills during the recording sessions, with some playing drums, piano, and even singing to demonstrate recording techniques.
My son thoroughly enjoyed the Crown Lane Recording Studio workshop. He came away feeling very pleased and inspired by the experience. It was a fantastic opportunity for him to see how a professional studio works and to learn more about music production in a real-world setting. Thank you for organising such a valuable and memorable experience.
