Sutton Music Trust encourages all students to make music, and we are proud to provide students with opportunities to perform to audiences in large-scale venues. We were delighted to be involved in the Music for Youth Proms Creative Project, celebrating the talent of young musicians nationwide.
On Thursday 28th November 2024, Sutton Music Trust took the Sutton Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) to the Royal Albert Hall for the Music for Youth National Proms. This extraordinary event showcased the brilliance of young musicians from across the UK, featuring a wide array of orchestras, bands and choirs in a breathtaking display of music.
This year’s performance highlighted an exciting new piece, The Colour of All Things Constant, composed by Cassie Kinoshi, which was commissioned as part of the BBC Ten Pieces project. The piece was centred around kindness, which was important as this event also promoted the Thank You Music Teacher campaign which is recognising the contributions of music teachers in shaping our community.
Thanks for organising the opportunity for the SYSO members to perform in Royal Albert Hall yesterday. It was such a lovely experience for them and my daughter really enjoyed the day. Such a spectacular show last evening too.
SYSO Parent
YolanDa Brown, a British saxophonist and composer, presented the show alongside some special guests such as Jack Pepper, one of the youngest-ever national radio presenters in the UK. It was a joy to hear musicians speak about what makes music so special to them.
SYSO also had the unique opportunity to close the show with a grand finale of ‘Earth’ by Hans Zimmer alongside approximately 1000 other musicians. This electrifying grand finale was a fitting end to a fantastic celebration of music. Well done to our young musicians who rose to the challenge at this event.
